Functional Electrical Stimulation in restoration and support of gait

International FES Centre® (Nottwil, Switzerland) and online via Zoom

17 + 18 November 2023

The course is carried out in a hybrid form. Depending on the applicable health guidelines, a limited number of participants can take part in the International FES Centre® in the Swiss Paraplegic Centre Nottwil. The number of online participants via Zoom is unlimited. Official regulations will determine whether the event will be able to take place on site in Nottwil. If it is not possible to hold the event in Nottwil, the course will be held completely online. The SPC will not cover any travel or hotel costs that may already have been booked.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the FES (Functional Electrical Stimulation) OML team at the, National Clinical FES Centre in Salisbury. We seek to recruit a neuro-physiotherapist who wishes to develop a speciality in neurological rehabilitation and the application of functional electrical stimulation (FES). The successful applicant will provide therapy clinical input to both adult and paediatric patients.

The service provides FES for clients with neurological impairment and functional limitations due to conditions such as stroke, MS, PD, SCI, CP and HSP and includes the application of FES for upper and lower limb management as well as other specialist applications. The successful applicant will also provide assistance with the PD Warrior exercise classes and may to run the classes following the necessary training courses. Clients are both NHS and privately funded.
The post holder will assist in the delivery of training and mentorship to internal and external FES clinicians through OML FES accreditation courses (both face to face and on-line); conferences and exhibitions. They will also be involved in promotion of FES, showcasing OML’s products and services and will become an advocate FES as a valuable adjunct in the management of patients with neurological conditions to optimise wellbeing, independence and quality of life. The post offers good opportunities for continuing professional development and will provide opportunities to assist with the research, development and assessment of new FES techniques and introducing them into clinical service. The post is eligible for OML’s profit sharing scheme. The post will involve occasional travel within the UK.
